New Maintenance Shed – Open House & Ribbon Cutting

We celebrated the completion of the new maintenance building on Sunday, May 22nd. An Open House was held in the afternoon, following the Member-Member Tournament.

Terry Whitney served as Master of Ceremonies for the event. Terry started the program by recognizing Robb Herron and John Hickson, the NGC Board of Directors, and our Lifetime Members: Ann Collins, Phil and Joan Bowen, Terry and Roxy Whitney, Jeff Dutch, and Karl and Martha Beiser. Terry also thanked Karl and Martha for their help with the property for the new building. Lee Woodward also provided legal support, and the NGC Members appreciate Lee’s assistance.

We were pleased to have several dignitaries join us. State Senator Chip Curry and State Representative Jan Dodge both said a few words. It was an honor to have them at our Open House, and we thank them for their support.

Also joining us was Dorothy Havey, Executive Director of the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce. NGC appreciates the support of Dorothy and the Chamber of Commerce (Mark September 9th on your calendar for the Annual Belfast Chamber Tournament).

Ken Gordon served as Project Manager for the maintenance building, and did an excellent job, bringing the project in on time and within budget. Ken thanked those involved in the project success, especially given the unusual circumstances of the times – Covid, supply chain delays, raging inflation of building materials, worker shortages, and so on.

Ken recognized several groups and individuals for their efforts:

John Davee, President of Maine Coast Construction
  • – First off would be the Northport Planning Board and Code Enforcement Officer for their assistance permitting the project.
  • – Next would be Maine Coast Construction and its president John Davee who were dedicated to delivering a cost-effective project.
  • – And to Alan Blood for all the site work, along with his partner Preston Ward for tree removal.
  • – Thanks to David Riley for the paving under our material bunkers.
  • – And thanks to Butch Norman helping to guide us through the installation of a new power line.
  • – And to Good Deeds for unraveling some property line issues.

The NGC Board of Dirctors would like to once again thank the many members who donated to make this project happen. And special thanks to Paul Doody, Chairman of the fund raising efforts.

The highlight of the day was the actual ribbon cutting. Sue Gordon, President of the NGC Board of Directors, did the honors. She was assisted by Dorothy Havey, Robb Herron, John Hickson, and Ken Gordon. Special assistance provided by Emrick, Sue and Ken’s grandson.

The fun didn’t end with the ribbon cutting. John Hickson presented the results of the Member-Member Tournament. The Men’s Division Champions were Steve Drake and Keith Parker. Jenna Caler and Kelsey Richardson (not shown) won the Women’s Division: (click images for larger versions)

After the announcement of the tournament winners, Paula Herron and Annie Pickford picked the winners of the raffle for gift certificates at the Pro Shop. Representative Jan Dodge was one of the happy winners.

Thank you to the members of Northport Golf Club, and the many project volunteers, all of whom made this new building possible. Thank you to Sue Gordon and Annie Pickford for organizing the successful Open House, to Warren Westbo for promotional efforts, to the NGC Board members who provided refreshments for the event, and to the staff who made sure everything was ready and ran smoothly.
